Liaoning Fuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. Successfully Conducts Joint Inspection of the Upper and Lower Sections of the Copper-Containing High-Pressure Inner Cylinder for Russian Nuclear Power Plants

From December 23 to 27, 2023, Liaoning Fuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Fuan Heavy Industry), in collaboration with Beijing Shanshui Borun Power Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Beijing Shanshui) and with the participation of the Russian side, conducted a four-and-a-half-day joint inspection and acceptance of the upper and lower halves of the copper-containing high-pressure inner cylinder for nuclear power equipment manufactured by Fuan Heavy Industry. The joint inspection was carried out by Wang Huajun, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Shanshui; Lu Haojie, Quality Engineer at Beijing Shanshui; and Mayatsky A.V. and Kalagin A.V., Russian designers and quality engineers, who respectively inspected and accepted the dimensions, surface roughness, VT, MT, UT, RT, mechanical properties, and other relevant parameters of both the upper and lower halves of the high-pressure inner cylinder. All items passed inspection. The Russian side expressed high appreciation and unanimous praise for Fuan Heavy Industry’s preparation and organization of the joint inspection, as well as for the coordination and cooperation throughout the inspection process. The successful and smooth completion of this joint inspection underscores Fuan Heavy Industry’s corporate service philosophy of “quality that satisfies customers and schedules that give customers peace of mind,” and serves as a successful demonstration of the company’s corporate spirit of “uniting hearts and minds to pursue excellence.” In the near future, from January 23 to 27, 2024, Fuan Heavy Industry will organize another joint inspection of the upper and lower halves of the copper-containing high-pressure outer cylinder for Russian nuclear power equipment, which will once again showcase Fuan’s superior quality. Products of Scientific Research Projects from National Key Laboratories

Fuan Heavy Industry has undertaken the production of key components—namely the converging section, diverging section, and working section—for a national key laboratory research project: these are critical core parts of the large cavitation water tunnel experimental platform being constructed by the Shanghai Institute of Shipbuilding and Transportation Sciences. This large cavitation water tunnel experimental platform is China’s first domestically developed, designed, and manufactured “first-of-its-kind” facility; it is the largest such platform in Asia and the second largest in the world dedicated to ship-related research. It serves as an essential experimental facility for studying the cavitation performance and hydroacoustic characteristics of ships and propellers, primarily used to conduct simulated experiments on the hydrodynamic, cavitation, vibration-force, and noise characteristics of ship propellers, hydrofoils, and high-speed underwater vehicles under pressurized or negative-pressure conditions. The successful development of this large cavitation water tunnel platform has broken through foreign technological blockades and monopolies, and is of great significance in enhancing China’s major engineering and technological capabilities in the maritime field as well as the research and testing capacity of the State Key Laboratory of Shipping Technology and Safety. This product is a stainless-steel welded assembly with an overall frustum-shaped external geometry and complex spatial curved surfaces forming the internal cavity. Fuan Heavy Industry was responsible for the final machining and pre-assembly prior to delivery. The component measures 13.5 meters in total length, with a maximum flange cross-section of 7 × 7 meters; its flatness tolerance is 0.1 millimeter, parallelism tolerance is 0.25 millimeter, internal cavity profile deviation is less than 0.3 millimeter, and the alignment tolerance for the mating pins on the assembled flanges is less than 0.03 millimeter. Given the component’s exceptionally large dimensions and stringent precision requirements, some of the machining dimensions exceed the processing capabilities and accuracy standards of conventional machine tools. To mitigate errors caused by deformation during machining, additional process supports were incorporated within the cavity, and specialized tooling fixtures and contour-milling cutters were designed and manufactured. A grid-based reference system was established inside the cavity, and advanced measurement equipment such as laser trackers was employed for inspection and correction, effectively ensuring compliance with the required dimensional accuracy of the cavity. The successful completion of the final machining of this product fills a domestic gap in the machining of large-scale three-dimensional spatial curved surfaces, and Fuan is preparing to publish a technical paper and file a national patent application. Machining of the component was completed in stages at the end of 2023, and by early 2024 all units had passed quality acceptance by the relevant state authorities. The product’s outstanding quality has earned high praise from the customer, underscoring the company’s significant contribution to China’s strategic national projects and creating a new growth driver for Fuan’s shipbuilding market segment.

On June 28, the first batch of generating units at the Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River was commissioned and began generating power. General Secretary Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message, praising the Baihetan Hydropower Station as “a major national project for transmitting electricity from west to east, and the largest hydropower project under construction in the world today in terms of scale and the most technically challenging. The world’s largest single-unit capacity—1 million kilowatts—hydraulic turbine-generator set represents a major breakthrough in China’s high-end equipment manufacturing.”
