Liaoning Fuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Fuan Heavy Industry”) has once again achieved remarkable success in the field of green energy equipment. Following the successful delivery on April 23, 2025, of the world’s largest single-unit-capacity, largest-size cast steel gate components for the Zala 500 MW impulse turbine unit, the company has recently secured another major new order for cast steel gate components for the Lianghekou Hydropower Station—a hybrid pumped-storage power station that ranks among the largest in the world and is located at one of the highest altitudes. These achievements underscore Fuan Heavy Industry’s outstanding new productive forces and continue to provide strong momentum for the implementation of China’s “dual carbon” strategy.

The Lianghekou Pumped-Storage Power Station is currently one of the largest pumped-storage facilities in the world and the highest-altitude hybrid pumped-storage plant in China. Located on the main stream of the Yalong River in Yajiang County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan Province, approximately 25 kilometers upstream from the county seat, it serves as a key regulating reservoir for the cascade hydropower stations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yalong River, exerting a significant influence on the development of the entire Yalong River cascade. The steel castings for the Lianghekou surge valve manufactured under this contract are core components of the pumped-storage generating units, with a net weight of 115 metric tons, maximum overall dimensions of 5 meters, and a height of nearly 4 meters. Both the technical complexity and manufacturing accuracy of these components are at the forefront of the industry.

In response to this challenging task, Fuan Heavy Industry promptly established a dedicated project team comprising senior technical and quality experts. Drawing extensively on the successful experience gained from the Zala valve project, the team leveraged comprehensive simulation and modeling technologies to successfully overcome key technical hurdles, including “ensuring high-density internal quality in thick-section castings” and “achieving high-precision forming and control of large-size, weight-reduced steel valve castings.” To date, the project’s product has completed process design, simulation and modeling, and full-process review, marking the official transition of the project into the orderly production phase.
