In recent years, driven by technological advancements, global demand for electricity has surged. According to a report by the International Energy Agency, worldwide electricity demand is projected to double to 50,000 TWh by 2050. Gas-turbine–based natural-gas power-generation equipment occupies a pivotal position in the emerging power-sector landscape and serves as an essential complement to renewable-energy generation for peak-shaving and load balancing. According to Gas Turbine World magazine, from 2017 to 2023 a total of 1,445 gas turbines were commissioned in the power-utility sector, with a combined installed capacity of 229.25 GW. Over the next decade, global orders for gas turbines are expected to exceed US$137 billion, underscoring a promising market outlook. In the 2024–2025 period alone, gas-turbine–generated electricity output and total installed capacity are forecast to grow by 3.9% and 10.09%, respectively.
For a long period, China’s gas-turbine market was dominated by foreign brands, with international industry giants such as Solar, GE, Mitsubishi, and Siemens controlling virtually the entire domestic and global market. However, as China’s “Major National Science and Technology Project on Aero-Engines and Gas Turbines” has gradually yielded results, major state-owned enterprises—including Dongfang Steam Turbine Works, Qingdao Guosheng Gas Turbines, and Longjiang Guanghan Gas Turbines—have also achieved significant breakthroughs in the R&D and manufacturing of heavy-duty gas turbines in recent years. That said, given the relatively short history of the industry and the time required to build brand recognition, there is still room for growth in terms of the global market influence of domestically produced gas turbines and their full product potential.
Since 2017, Liaoning Fuan Gas Turbine Co., Ltd. has, through the introduction of a mature Russian technical team and prototype units followed by thorough assimilation and subsequent in-house reproduction, developed heavy-duty, structurally designed gas turbines in the 10 MW and 4 MW classes that are fully owned under independent intellectual property rights. Notably, the 10 MW gas turbine achieved full-speed no-load operation as early as 2019. At present, Fuan Gas Turbines has completed all design work for the integrated, turnkey 10 MW power plant configuration and is now preliminarily equipped to undertake practical power-plant operations.

Compared with international markets, China’s natural-gas power-generation sector operates in a uniquely structured market environment, characterized by distinct features in resource distribution, pricing mechanisms, and supporting infrastructure. These differences mean that domestic gas-turbine manufacturers require more time to explore suitable operational strategies and innovative business models as they advance toward market-oriented operations. At the same time, high entry barriers in international markets—stemming from technical standards, certification systems, and localization requirements—pose significant challenges for Chinese gas-turbine firms seeking to expand into overseas markets.
Recently, surging electricity demand in Russia, Central Asia, and Africa has opened up vast prospects for the development of the gas-turbine industry. With the rollout of the Belt and Road Initiative, taking domestically produced gas turbines overseas has become a tangible goal. Fuan Gas Turbine’s product technology is rooted in Russia, giving it natural market fit and deep historical ties with the Russian market—key factors that have propelled Fuan Gas Turbine to achieve breakthroughs amid the broader context of deepening China–Russia cooperation.
Recently, a delegation from a Russian energy company proactively requested a fact-finding visit to Fuan Gas Turbines. Following the visit, the Russian delegation expressed high appreciation for the advanced technology, reliable quality, and outstanding efficiency and energy-saving performance of Fuan’s gas turbine products.
